Getting Ketchup Out of Clothes
2017JUN28th
You’re at a family BBQ, you’re hungry, you take a big bite out of your burger . . . and now you’ve got a ketchup stain on your shirt.
If this is you (or more likely one of your kids), you’ve got a tricky stain to deal with. Thankfully, Oxi Fresh Carpet Cleaning has a handy laundry cleaning tip just for you!
Check it out:
What You’ll Need
Liquid Laundry Detergent
White Vinegar
Sponge
Stain Remover
Bleach
Let’s Get Cleaning!
– Step 1 –
First things first – use a spoon to scoop up as much ketchup as possible. Scoop towards the center of the spill.
– Step 2 –
Run cold water through the back of the stain. Make sure this rinse water isn’t flowing down the shirt, as that will just spread the stain around.
– Step 3 –
Work some laundry detergent into the spot by hand (wearing gloves, of course) and tamp it with a soft brush. Put your gloved hand behind the stain as you tamp.
– Step 4 –
Let the detergent dwell for a few minutes and then rinse it out.
– Step 5 –
Dampen a sponge with white vinegar and work it into the spot. Rinse it out after this.*
Repeat Steps 2–5 until no more of the spot comes up.
– Step 6 –
If there’s still a spot remaining, apply a laundry stain pretreatment and launder the item.
– Step 7 –
If there’s still a spot after this, work the laundry detergent into the spot and soak the item for half an hour in warm water.
– Step 8 –
Wash the item one more time. If the stain is still lingering at this point, consider using bleach.*
And there you go! If that doesn’t erase that ketchup stain, it might be time to buy a new shirt.
*When using products like bleach or vinegar, test them on a corner of the fabric to make sure they won’t cause color loss.
